Constellations

A chance encounter at a barbeque between a beekeeper and a quantum physicist, is there a spark?  They get along, they strike up a relationship or perhaps they don’t.

They go their separate ways, or do they go home together. Any and every future outcome is possible in the multiverse.

This is a play about love and the complexities of navigating relationships.   This play explores the infinite trajectories that love can take to bring people together or pull them apart, through fate, chance and choice. Contains adult themes, mature language, discusses terminal illness and assisted suicide.

Elle Foray and Laura Day take on the parts of Rosie the beekeeper and Marianne the quantum physicist are performing Constellations on Tuesday 30th April, Thursday 2nd May, Saturday 4th May at 7.45pm, Wednesday 8th May and Friday 10th May.

Matt Donald and Gwyneth Boorer take the parts of Roland the beekeeper and Marianne the quantum physicist and will be performing Constellations on Wed 1st May, Friday 3rd May and Saturday 4th May at 3pm, Thursday 9th May and Saturday 11th May.

Our Young Adults workshop for 16-21 year olds is welcoming new members and is led by Ella Sowton with Leigh Evans. In the lead up to the Constellations audition several of the Young Adults spent time looking at various extracts of the play and they did a fantastic jon, their youth brings another different take on the play and so the Archway Theatre is excited that two pairs of actors from the Young Adults will also have the opportunity to perform Constellations and we hope that our theatre community will also come together to support their one off performances. Liv Brown and Rachel Harrison will be performing on Monday 6th May and Jenna Simmonds-Wood and Lorna Flanagan will be performing on Tuesday 7th May. Tickets for their performances will be priced at £9

Set in 1983, Di and Viv and Rose is an exploration of female friendship.

Three girls meet at university and bond so well that they decide to move in together.

The play follows the ever-changing fortunes of their lives at university and beyond.

Di is a sporty business student, bursting with energy. Viv is an ambitious design student intent on escaping her roots and middle-class Rose is a history of art student, lovable and promiscuous.

It is such a well written play, crackling with wit and poignant observation that few people would fail to enjoy it.

This year we begin an exciting new collaboration with RBG Kew – Wakehurst: three weekends of open-air theatre (matinees only) in the beautiful gardens there.

For 2024 we will be presenting Shakespeare’s magical comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Always a firm favourite and especially suitable to open air performance, this production will be set in the late Victorian period, when the interest in fairy magic was especially popular, and will lean heavily in style on the works of Arthur Rackham.

So, bring a picnic and wallow in the beauty of nature and the sparkling humour of this classic play.

This year, for the Youth Workshop’s 30th production, we find ourselves in the little town of Bad Blintz. Maurice, a streetwise cat is coordinating a scam involving some very clever rats.

Two not so clever Rat Catchers are in the control of the very evil Rat King and nothing is quite what it seems in this battle for supremacy!

In the Yorkshire mining town of Grimley, bandleader Danny’s dreams of leading the colliery brass band to victory in the national championships at the Albert Hall seem ‘out of tune’ with reality, as workers choose between picket lines and redundancy packages.

But when Flugelhorn playing Gloria returns to her hometown, heads are turned, spirits are raised, and the band get their ‘oompah’ back. But what’s the real reason for Gloria coming back? And can a community that’s fighting to maintain dignity and hope, survive another set of betrayals?
